Easter

If you are part of a local faith community that worships Jesus Christ then you are likely anticipating a great day of worship on Sunday. Here are a few simple ideas to make the day more meaningful.

Congregation

  • Pray: Nothing happens of eternal significance on Sunday without the Holy Spirit.

  • Invite: God has placed people in your life that will only know Jesus through you. This is a great opportunity to invite your friends to church.

  • Show up early: I know it is Easter and there is a lot to do on Sunday morning. However, contribute to the excitement of the day by showing up early.

  • Welcome: Since you showed up early you now have a chance to welcome people to church. If anyone comes within 10 feet of you, greet them.

  • Ask: Ask your leaders if there are any volunteer spots left unfilled for Sunday. Your involvement may make the difference in someone becoming a part of the life of your church.

  • Invite: I know you already invited someone to church but think of who might be alone this Easter and invite them to dinner.

Pastor

  • Pray: You have a lot to do. You have so much to do that you need to stop and pray.

  • Prepare: Do one thing better this week. I watch myself preach every month and pick one thing to improve.

  • Innovate: Is there something new you can try on Sunday? It could be a new song, a spoken word or a new approach. It is not too late to try something new.

  • Trust your people: If everything that happens on Sunday depends on you, you are leading incorrectly. If you can’t trust your people then spend the next year building relationships and raising up servants of Christ.

  • Relax: You have prayed hard, you have prepared, you are thinking creatively and you have launched your people to serve. Remember to let the Holy Spirit do His work. God will work through your congregation to do what only He can do.

My congregation has been praying and inviting as a part of our desire to make disciples of Jesus. In my heart and mind, Sunday has already been a success. Everything else that happens on Sunday is just icing on the cake. We have no attendance goal. Our goal has been related to making disciples. When we do that well, God will build His church.

I pray you have your best Easter as we celebrate the resurrection of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords! He is Risen!
