I Cannot See
For 11 months I begged God to help me see what I needed to see so that I could discover what He was calling me to do. He was silent.
For 11 months I worked at Amazon. While it was an amazing job with incredible people that helped me rediscover my love for humanity, I also knew it was not a job I could do until retirement. I needed vocation. During those months I prayed and I prayed and I prayed that God would show me what I needed to know so I could do what He wanted me to do. He was silent.
Sunday I was at a graduation party for one of my students. She is a remarkable student who has faced enormous personal difficulty with the strength of Her Savior, Jesus Christ. Before the meal, we all prayed together. I sat and talked to a college student about the First Coast Network. And in a moment that seemed like it hung in time itself, the table emptied and only Miriam and I were seated. In that seemingly eternal moment, I saw clearly and I heard clearly.
On the way to her house I was remarking to Miriam about how I had been on this particular dirt road and delivered to this address and their close neighbors. When attending other graduation parties I have told her about being on those roads. The next graduation party is on a road I delivered to with Amazon. In that eternal moment I discovered that God was answering my prayers every day. How?
During my time at Amazon I drove on every single road where my students live. I have even delivered to many of their homes. When they tell me where they live, I know where it is. While working at Amazon, God was showing me everything I needed to see to discover what He was calling me to do. It wasn’t until I became a teacher and ate at the table with my students, in my home and in theirs, that I finally saw clearly.
At that table on Sunday, tears filled my eyes and I had to quickly compose myself. On the way home we held hands and prayed a prayer of gratitude to God for his faithfulness, goodness and direction in our lives. It was on Sunday I learned a valuable lesson…
If you can’t hear God speak, look around because God might be showing you what is on the horizon of your life.
