Listen
I live 90 miles from Charlotte, North Carolina. A lot of people are talking about the events transpiring there. It is honestly heartbreaking on so many levels.
The Bible says that we should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. (James 1:9) Isn’t it just like the Bible to mess with how we tend to naturally live our lives!
Instead of spouting off, reacting hastily and raging against the "man", our first instinct should be to listen. Our call is to seek understanding instead of convincing others of our preconceived ideas.
In our Social Media saturated society, anyone with access to the internet can post whatever they want without thought, care or implication. Those individuals can cause a great deal of harm and are often rewarded with an audience. Our call is to actively and quickly listen.
- If you are a white person, listen to a person of color.
- If you are a person of color, listen to a white person.
- If you are a civilian, listen to a police officer.
- If you are a police officer, listen to a civilian.
- Listen to your neighbor
- Listen to your co-worker
Whatever you do, listen.
