God uses Lunatics

There seems to be a lot of fear about the election in November. I have seen blogs from pastors about why we should vote for one candidate or the other and have done a great job of spiritualizing their arguments. I believe we should care about the election but we should be careful not to over-spiritualize the matter.

In Ezra 1 we see God moving in the heart of the King of Persia to motivate God’s people to return to Jerusalem from exile to rebuild the temple. We have seen all through scripture how God used secular Kings to act on His behalf. Sometimes that action had a negative impact on God’s people and sometimes it had a positive impact. Every action was centered on God’s desire to redeem His created ones.

Instead of getting sucked into endless debates about who is the better candidate, let’s proclaim that God can use either to accomplish His purpose. Whoever is elected is ultimately not in control anyway. I believe that God will use our peace to speak volumes about who we believe is on the throne. God will use our peace to help others know that regardless of what happens in our Nation, we have a hope that will endure.
