Trading Dreams
Have you ever traded in a childhood dream for a Kingdom dream? I did it today and while I have no idea how the story will turn out, I trust Jesus.
When I was a kid I fell in love with Ford trucks. (You Chevy and Dodge folks can keep quiet, okay!) it became a dream to one day own an F150. I worked hard and saved and earned the trust of the church and finally got an F150. I owned 3 of them before I bought an F250.
Then the Lord spoke about a new dream for my life.
When we moved to Florida to plant not only a new church but a new type of church, we knew it was going to be a financial stretch. Selling half our possessions and living in a camper for approaching 4 months has been just the beginning.
This morning I traded in my 2019 F250 for a 2016 Ford Edge. It is debt free. For the first time since I was a child I don’t know if I will ever own a truck again…and that is okay.
You see, when we trade childhood dreams for Kingdom dreams we do so with no expectations - only obedience. I don’t know what God will do but I know he can be trusted.
I don’t assume or expect that God will replace the truck. I don’t assume or expect God will accelerate the work of his Kingdom because his people make sacrifices. I only expect that God will be good to me and He gets to define what “good” means.
So I am going to drive home without a truck and I will be at peace. I will trust that the dreams my Father has for people who do not know the good news about Jesus will involve my participation. I will trust that my Father loves me and whatever sacrifices remain will be to honor and glorify Jesus.
I have traded a dream that decays for one that will never perish spoil or fade. Now, let’s see what else this day holds for me as I walk with Jesus.
